High Andean Sector: The Flora and Vegetation

The High Andean sector covers around 20% of the total Park area and constitutes numerous barren islands above the forest's upper limit (1700m.a.s.l.)

Up to now, some 250 High Andean species have been registered. They are grouped in markedly different communities and are mainly distributed according to the above mentioned gradients.
A great part of these species appear exclusively in the Southern Cordillera and have such attractive flowers that they are particularly appreciated by excursionists, photographers and altitude rock-garden lovers from other parts of the world.
